I'm an Associate Professor of Political Science at Yale University. I'm a political theorist interested in democratic theory, theories of justice, Enlightenment thinkers, and the philosophy of social sciences. My book Democratic Reason (Princeton University Press 2013) was awarded the 2015 David and Elaine Spitz Prize for best book in liberal and/or democratic theory published two years earlier. I am currently writing a new book on post-representative or "open" democracy, where I develop the principles of a new paradigm of democracy. Unlike representative democracy, post-representative or open democracy genuinely empowers ordinary citizens.
